Today, as in the past, the majority of immigrants that come to the U.S. are here to work hard and get a better education. They are just looking for an opportunity; the rest is up to them. One of the choices that will improve their chances of succeeding in this country is the ability to learn the English language. But at what cost is this assimilation? Is losing a part of ones culture to big of a price to pay for succeeding?
Do you think this "entrada" just plays on the stereotypes of the "tall dark and handsome latin lover"? Why are nearly all the women on telenovelas ridiculously gorgeous? And why, especially in the Mexican ones, do the women rarely wear clothing that covers more than 20% of their bodies, unless they are the fat, funny "tia" who's there for comic relief or to do the laundry?
